Hinalea’s Model 4450 is the next-generation system in its series of award-winning intelligent hyperspectral imaging solutions. The Model 4450 covers the shortwave-infrared (SWIR) spectral range from 1000 to 1700 nm and combines high spectral and spatial performance, with affordability and portability. The 4400 model utilizes a front-staring approach to hyperspectral imaging that does not require mechanical scanning.
The consumable component of meat, and muscle tissue, is approximately 75% water, 20% protein, and 5% fat, carbohydrate, and minerals. The proportions vary depending on the type of muscle, the kind of meat, seasonal variability, and the intrinsic pH. The water content is higher for leaner cuts. The water content contributes significantly to the eating quality of the product and is an indicator of freshness. Hyperspectral imaging cameras represent a valuable tool for analyzing meat products in a non-contact, non-destructive way.
Hyperspectral imaging technology is useful for detecting unseen crop-health issues so that actions can be taken far in advance of problems occurring. These cameras generate ‘hyper-cubes’ of data, whereby the spectrum at each pixel in the image is collected. Subtle reflected color differences that are not observable by the human eye or even by color cameras are immediately identifiable by comparison of spectra between pixels.
Hyperspectral imaging cameras represent an invaluable tool for cellular microscopy applications. In our application note, we discuss the four types: reflectance, brightfield/transmission, darkfield, and fluorescence. The significant advantage of this technology is that it overcomes the limitation of human vision, and also the limitation of basic color cameras. The introduction of fluorescence microscopy technique has added the ability to examine cell condition and function in addition to structure in research and clinical diagnosis methods such as immunochemistry. However, interpretation of these images is often subjective due to limitations in human vision to distinguish subtle color differences particularly due to spatially overlapping emissions. Hyperspectral imaging data-cubes when combined with image processing techniques such as spectral unmixing and classification, enables such features (i.e. distinguishing tumor margins) to be easily visualized and identified.
